The most common reason a Cape Cod buyer walks away from a full-size truck has nothing to do with the truck. It is the driveway. A great many houses between Hyannis and Falmouth were built when a sedan was the family car, and the garage door openings and turning space were sized to match. So before you get attached to a 2027 Ram 1500, it is worth spending five minutes with a tape measure.

The Numbers That Decide It
- A Crew Cab is 232.4 inches long, which is just over 19 feet.
- It is 81.2 inches wide with the mirrors out.
- A standard single garage door opening is usually 8 or 9 feet.
- A standard parking bay is around 18 feet, so a Crew Cab overhangs it.
- Fold the mirrors and the truck loses several inches of width instantly.
Measure three things, not one
People measure the garage door width and stop. That is the measurement least likely to be the problem, because folding mirrors solve most of it. The three that actually matter are these.
Depth, from the door to the back wall. At 232.4 inches a Crew Cab is over 19 feet, and a garage built for a sedan is often 20 feet inside with a workbench eating two of them. This is the one that fails most often, and no option box fixes it.
The approach. Cape driveways frequently curve in off a narrow road with a stone wall or a hedge on one side. The question is not whether the truck fits the space, it is whether it can be swung into the space in one movement in February with a trailer still on the back.
Width at the pinch point. Measure the narrowest thing the truck passes, which is often a gate post or a pair of shrubs rather than the garage itself. 81.2 inches is the mirrors-out figure; folded, you get useful inches back.
If the depth measurement is tight
This is where the cab and box choice earns its money, and it is the part most buyers skip past on their way to picking a colour. The Ram 1500 is not one size. A Quad Cab moves length out of the cab and into the box, which changes how the truck sits in a space even when the totals are close. If you have twenty feet and a workbench, that difference is the whole decision.

What parking outside actually costs you here
Plenty of Cape truck owners park outside and are perfectly happy. It is worth knowing what that decision means over a decade, though, because on this peninsula it is not neutral.
Marine air is corrosive year round, and winter road salt adds to it. A truck that lives outside on Cape Cod ages from the underbody up rather than from the odometer, which is why a regular underbody wash through the winter does more for resale value than almost anything else an owner can do. The trap in comparing two trucks on a spec sheet
Two Ram 1500s with the same trim badge can be different lengths, because the badge does not set the body. A Big Horn, a Laramie and a Rebel can all be had in configurations that fit your driveway or configurations that do not, and the difference between them is cab and box rather than trim level. Will a Ram 1500 fit in a one-car garage?
Width is usually solvable by folding the mirrors, which brings the truck in from its 81.2-inch mirrors-out figure. Depth is the real test: a Crew Cab is 232.4 inches long, so a garage under about 20 feet of clear internal depth will not close the door behind it.
Is a Quad Cab shorter than a Crew Cab?

Wash the underbody regularly through the winter and after any oversand run, and have the brakes and suspension inspected on schedule rather than stretched. Salt reaches the chassis whether the truck is garaged or not; washing it off is what protects the truck.
Does a tight driveway rule out towing?
