The Cherokee is a two-row, five-seat midsize SUV, all new for 2026 after a gap in the lineup, sold at our Hyannis showroom on Route 132, a mile off Route 6 and minutes from anywhere in Barnstable, in five trims from $36,995 to $44,995 including a $1,995 destination charge. There is one drivetrain and no alternatives to it: the 1.6L I4 Turbo Hybrid at a Jeep-rated 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft, a continuously variable transaxle, and Jeep Active Drive I four-wheel drive with a rear-axle disconnect. Even the cheapest car arrives with the 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, the 10.25-inch digital cluster, and the whole driver-assistance suite, Active Driving Assist included. On Cape Cod, a peninsula with two bridges, eight months of empty road and salt arriving from both directions, the combination of standard four-wheel drive and 37 MPG combined is the reason people come down Route 6, and over the Sagamore Bridge from the South Shore, to look at one.
Because the powertrain does not change up the range, every step buys equipment rather than capability: the Laredo adds remote start, a power driver's seat and fog lights; the Limited adds a heated steering wheel, a power liftgate and dual power front seats; the Overland makes the dual-pane panoramic sunroof standard and is the only trim that can add the 360-degree surround-view camera. Its EPA figures are 39 city, 35 highway, 37 combined, and better than 500 miles out of the 13.7-gallon tank. Cargo behind the second row measures 33.6 cubic feet, and a properly equipped car will pull 3,500 pounds on a conventional hitch. Both of those numbers matter more here than they would inland: a Cape Cod driveway and a run up to the bridge are the two trips this SUV actually does.
