Local Buyer's Guide

Beach chairs, bikes, kayak paddles and a week of ferry gear: here is what a 5-foot bed carries on a Cape weekend, and which Gladiator keeps it dry and locked.

A 2027 Jeep Gladiator's 5-foot steel bed, 60.3 inches long, carries a Cape weekend's gear, from beach chairs and coolers to bikes, and on the Mojave X and Rubicon X a tonneau cover and a lockable bin keep it dry and out of sight. Properly equipped, the crew cab 4x4 also tows up to 7,700 lbs, so a boat trailer can follow the beach gear down to the harbor.

We are Premier Cape Cod, at 556 Yarmouth Rd in Hyannis, and we have the full 2027 Gladiator lineup on the lot for drivers from Falmouth, Plymouth and the whole South Shore. Most of the Gladiator questions we hear are loading questions, so this is how we walk a shopper through the bed.

What Does a Cape Weekend Actually Need to Carry?

A summer weekend here is wet, sandy and heavy, and most of it fits in a 5-foot bed with the tailgate up.

The weekend What goes in the bed Why the bed works
A beach day Chairs, a cooler, umbrellas and a wet-towel bag Sand and salt stay out of the cab
A bike day on the trail Two or three bikes, helmets and a pump The bikes ride in the bed and the cab stays clean
A paddle or fishing morning Rods, paddles and a dry bag Long gear rides in the bed instead of across the seats
A week of ferry gear Coolers, bags and a stroller The cab is for people and the bed is for everything else

How Big Is the Gladiator's Bed, and What Comes With It?

The bed is a 5-foot steel box, 60.3 inches long, and every 2027 Gladiator is a four-door crew cab with that one bed. A spray-in bedliner by Mopar is an option on the Sport S, and a roll-up tonneau cover is an option on the Rubicon.

The Mojave X and Rubicon X go further, and they are the trims to see for a family that packs the bed full. Both come with the cargo group: trail rails, a roll-up tonneau cover, a 115-volt outlet in the bed and a lockable rear underseat bin. The underseat bin is the answer to the question every Cape driver asks about a pickup: where do the wallet, the phone and the camera go while the truck sits at the beach lot. The full trim breakdown is on our trims compared page.

How Much Can the Gladiator Carry?

The crew cab 4x4 carries 1,025 to 1,200 pounds at base depending on the trim, and up to 1,720 pounds when properly equipped.

Trim (crew cab 4x4) Base payload
Sport S, Willys, Sahara and Rewind 1,025 pounds
Mojave and Mojave X 1,100 pounds
Rubicon and Rubicon X 1,200 pounds

Passengers and cargo both count against payload, and so does a trailer's tongue weight, so a family of four and a loaded bed use it in different proportions. The door label on a specific truck gives the exact figure, and the specs page has the weights and dimensions.

Can the Gladiator Carry the Gear and Pull the Boat?

Yes. Properly equipped, the crew cab 4x4 tows up to 7,700 lbs, and base ratings are 4,500, 6,000 or 7,000 lbs by trim. The Willys, Rubicon and Mojave come with a Class IV receiver hitch, so a beach day and a boat day can ride on the same truck. Hitch types, brake rules and the 500-mile break-in period are on our towing capacity page.

What Does a Falmouth Family Actually Pack?

A family heading for the Nantucket or Vineyard ferry with a week of gear needs a bed that closes, because the line can run a long time and the gear is not coming inside. A Gladiator with a roll-up tonneau cover and a lockable bin lets the cooler and the bags ride dry, and the whole family rides in the five-seat cab. Plymouth and South Shore households use the same bed for a different run, with bikes and boards loaded for a day on the water.

What About the Salt and the Sand?

Rinse the bed, the wheel wells and the underside after a beach day, because sand is abrasive and salt rides in with it. The schedule on our service and maintenance page inspects the brakes, exhaust and cooling hoses at every oil change, and our service department can look after the truck between visits.

Would You Rather Keep the Gear Inside?

If the draw is the open-air SUV with its cargo inside, the Wrangler is the Jeep for that. The Wrangler vs Gladiator guide sets the two side by side on towing, cargo and price, so you can pick the body that matches your loads.

Common Gladiator Bed Questions

How long is the 2027 Gladiator's bed?

The bed measures 60.3 inches, or 5 feet, on every trim, and the Gladiator is offered only as a four-door crew cab.

Which Gladiator trims come with a tonneau cover and a bed outlet?

Both X trims. Their cargo group brings trail rails, a roll-up tonneau cover, a bed outlet and a lockable bin, and the Rubicon offers the tonneau cover as an option too.

Does loading the bed change how often the Gladiator needs service?

The schedule follows the oil change indicator, with oil changes never more than 7,500 miles, 12 months or 350 hours apart. Frequent trailer towing or off-road use moves the axle fluid service forward. The intervals are on our service page.

How much can the Gladiator tow with the bed full?

Passengers and cargo count against payload, and a trailer's tongue weight counts there too. The crew cab 4x4 tows up to 7,700 lbs properly equipped, and the truck's own label gives the exact figure. The 2027 Gladiator FAQs cover more loading questions.

Can I get pre-approved before I pick a trim?

Yes. The finance center takes a pre-approval request online, and you can value your trade before your visit.
