Nine trims sounds like a lot to sort through, but the 2027 Ram 2500 lineup really splits into four groups: work-focused (Tradesman, Black Express, Warlock), the volume choice (Big Horn), off-road specialists (Power Wagon, Rebel), and comfort-forward trims (Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited). Every trim can be ordered with the standard 6.4L HEMI V8 or the available High-Output 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel, so the trim decision and the engine decision are separate questions.

Ram's benchmark off-road trim. It comes loaded with trail hardware: locking diffs front and rear, Bilstein shocks, a front sway bar that disconnects on command, Hill Descent Control, and 34-inch rubber on 20-inch Satin Black wheels. The Cummins diesel joins the options sheet here for the first time in the nameplate's history, along with fifth-wheel/gooseneck prep and a 31-gallon tank good for an estimated 600 miles.

Every trim shares the same 17,750-lb gas / 20,000-lb diesel towing ceiling and the same 4,580-lb best-in-class gas payload with the Payload Upgrade Package. The trim you pick changes comfort, technology, and off-road hardware, not the capability ceiling.
Big Horn is the volume choice: body-color trim, a comfortable cabin, and the technology most Cape Cod buyers actually use, without paying for leather. Laramie adds leather-trimmed seating, more chrome, and for 2027 expanded RamBox storage and body-color fender flares. If you want the truck to double as a daily driver that also looks the part in the driveway, Laramie is the step up; if the truck is primarily a tool, Big Horn covers the same capability for less.
Both are 4x4-only off-road trims, but they're built for different terrain. Power Wagon carries the deeper hardware: locking differentials front and rear, a disconnecting front sway bar, and Hill Descent Control, all standard, now available with the Cummins diesel for the first time in 2027. Rebel shares much of that DNA but leans toward on-road presence with a sportier stance and a standard rear locker rather than the full front-and-rear locking setup. If you actually crawl rock or need maximum articulation, Power Wagon; if you want the off-road look and real capability for weekend trips without giving up everyday comfort, Rebel.
Both sit at the top of the lineup with the same technology content. The difference is aesthetic: Limited Longhorn carries a ranch-heritage design direction with Western-influenced badging, while Limited keeps a cleaner, more conventional luxury look. Neither gives up any capability to the other.
Big Horn is the trim most Cape Cod buyers land on. It carries the comfort and technology features people actually use daily without stepping into leather-trim pricing, and it's the trim Premier Cape Cod has in stock right now. Every step up from there adds something specific.

A Tradesman or Big Horn with the Payload Upgrade Package suits a Barnstable or Marion landscaping crew; Power Wagon's off-road hardware is built for permitted oversand runs at Sandy Neck; and a Laramie or Limited makes more sense for a South Shore owner whose truck doubles as the family tow vehicle on Route 3.
