Local Buyer's Guide
2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee in Cape Cod
Two off-road-focused trims are back, and a new one just joined them. Here's what it means for how you'd actually use one here.
If you test-drove a 2026 Grand Cherokee last winter and walked away wishing Jeep still built a proper off-road Trailhawk, the wait is over. For 2027, Trailhawk and Overland both return to the lineup after sitting out a model year, and a new Laredo Upland trim joins alongside them. For anyone shopping a Grand Cherokee on Cape Cod this fall, that changes the calculus on a few real local decisions: which trim to order for beach and trail driving, what it costs to get in, and whether it's worth waiting for late-availability stock.
Key Numbers
- Trailhawk returns at $54,995; Overland returns at $57,895 including destination.
- New Laredo Upland trim starts at $49,990.
- Every 2027 trim still tows up to 6,200 lbs properly equipped.
- Trailhawk and Overland carry late availability; the rest of the lineup can be ordered now.
We're Premier Cape Cod, at 556 Yarmouth Road in Hyannis, and we have the full 2027 Grand Cherokee lineup on order now. Here's what actually changed, and what it means for how you'd use one here.
Why Trailhawk and Overland Disappeared, and Why They're Back
The 2026 Grand Cherokee lineup ran without a Trailhawk or an Overland trim, leaving a gap between the volume Limited trims and the flagship Summit. For 2027, both trims return: Trailhawk as the most off-road-capable trim in the range, and Overland as a road-focused, upscale trim that shares Trailhawk's Quadra-Lift air suspension without the Trail Rated badge. Full pricing and equipment for both are on our Trims Compared page.
Neither trim changes the platform's core numbers. The 2.0L Hurricane 4 Turbo still makes 324 horsepower, and both engines still tow up to 6,200 pounds properly equipped, the same best-in-class figure the 2026 lineup carried. What's different is which trim gets you there, and what else comes with it.
What Trailhawk Actually Means for Sandy Neck and the Seashore
Trailhawk's return matters more here than on a lot of Jeep's map. Between the oversand permit areas at Sandy Neck Beach in Barnstable and the Cape Cod National Seashore oversand zones near Provincetown, a real Trail Rated Jeep has a genuine local use case, permit and seasonal closures aside. Trailhawk pairs the Trail Rated badge with standard Quadra-Lift air suspension and a Selec-Terrain system running five drive modes: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Mud/Sand. That's the hardware, not just the badge, and it's the trim worth pointing an actual off-road driver toward rather than a styling package.
Every other 2027 trim still gets the platform's best-in-class approach, breakover, and departure angles and the same three available 4x4 systems: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, Quadra-Drive II. The difference is Trailhawk adds the suspension hardware and off-road-specific tuning on top. Full specs are on our Specs page.
The New Laredo Upland, and Who It's Really For
The genuinely new nameplate this year is Laredo Upland, starting at $49,990. It borrows Trailhawk's 18-inch off-road-styled wheels, 265/60R18 all-terrain tires, and Trailhawk-inspired front fascia, without the Trail Rated badge or the standard air suspension. For an access road to a South Shore boat launch rather than a permitted oversand trail, Upland delivers most of the look and real all-terrain rubber for about $5,000 less than Trailhawk. It's the trim for a buyer who wants the stance without needing the full off-road spec sheet.
Ordering Now vs Waiting
Trailhawk and Overland carry late availability for 2027, while the rest of the lineup, including the new Laredo Upland, is available to order now for arrival through late 2026. Ordering a late-availability Trailhawk now gets you into the queue ahead of general lot arrival. For a buyer who simply wants a new Grand Cherokee for the season, Laredo, Laredo Upland, or any of the other eight trims are the faster path in. A Build & Price session confirms current order timing for any trim.
What It Means for Winter and Towing Season
None of the 2027 changes touch towing or fuel economy. Every trim still tows up to 6,200 pounds properly equipped, which covers most boats coming off the water at Sesuit Harbor or Falmouth's Inner Harbor before winter storage. Cape Cod's coastal salt air and winter road salt remain the two things that do the most damage to a Grand Cherokee's undercarriage over time, Trailhawk's off-road hardware included. Our Service page covers the maintenance schedule that protects against it. Deciding between the standard two-row body and the Grand Cherokee L for hauling gear or extra passengers on winter trips? Our Grand Cherokee vs Grand Cherokee L comparison breaks down the seating and cargo difference.

FAQs
Is the 2027 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk the same as the old one?
It carries the same Trail Rated badge and off-road positioning as prior Trailhawk trims, built on the current-generation Grand Cherokee platform with the 2.0L Hurricane Turbo engine.
Do I need a permit to drive a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk on Cape Cod beaches?
Yes. Oversand areas at Sandy Neck Beach and Cape Cod National Seashore both require a seasonal permit regardless of which 4x4 Jeep is driven, and some areas close during shorebird nesting season.
Does the new Laredo Upland trim cost more to maintain than a standard Laredo?
No, the maintenance schedule and intervals are the same across trims; Upland's all-terrain tires may wear differently than standard highway tires depending on use.
Can a 2026 Grand Cherokee trade in toward a 2027 Trailhawk?
Yes, Premier Cape Cod values trades toward any 2027 trim, including a pre-order on a late-availability Trailhawk or Overland.
Is towing capacity different on the returning Trailhawk and Overland trims?
No, every 2027 trim shares the same 6,200-pound best-in-class maximum towing rating, properly equipped, regardless of engine or trim.
