2026 Jeep Gladiator FAQs
Everything buyers ask about the 2026 Gladiator: pricing, towing, the bed, the trims, oversand permits, service, and what it is like to own one within sight of salt water.

Straight answers on the 2026 Gladiator, the way we would give them across the desk. Want the narrative version instead? Try the Gladiator overview, or go straight to trims compared for the money side.
Pricing and Availability
How much is a 2026 Jeep Gladiator?
The Sport starts at $39,820 and the Mojave X tops the published range at $61,210, both excluding a $1,995 destination charge. The Sport S, which is the volume trim, starts at $43,015.
What does the destination charge cover and can I avoid it?
It is $1,995 and it is the cost of shipping the truck from the factory. It applies to every new Gladiator regardless of trim, and no dealer can waive it. Any advertised price that looks unusually low is probably quoted before destination.
How many trims are there?
Thirteen for 2026: Sport, Sport S, Willys, Texas Trail, 85th Anniversary Edition, Sahara, Willys '41, Rewind, Rubicon, Mojave, Shadow Ops, Rubicon X and Mojave X. Eleven of them are buildable in Jeep's online configurator; Texas Trail lists at $45,820 and Rewind at $49,245, though neither appears in that configurator today, so treat availability as the open question.
Should I order one or buy from stock?
Because trim decides hardware here, and hardware is the part you cannot cheaply revisit. Buy off the lot when the right build is sitting there. When it is not, an order usually serves you better than a compromise trim. Ring us for where the lead times actually stand.
Engines and Performance
What engine does the 2026 Gladiator have?
One engine across the whole lineup: the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, making 285 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 260 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm, paired to an eight-speed automatic. There is no engine choice, so no trim is faster than another.
Is there still a manual transmission?
No. The six-speed was retired at the close of 2025; every 2026 truck ships with the eight-speed automatic instead.
Is there a diesel or a 4xe hybrid Gladiator?
Neither. There is no diesel for 2026, and the Gladiator has never been sold as a 4xe plug-in hybrid. The 4xe you may have read about is a Wrangler thing, and the Wrangler dropped it for 2026 as well.
What gas mileage does it get?
EPA rates it 17 city, 22 highway and 19 combined MPG, per fueleconomy.gov, with an estimated annual fuel cost of $3,300. One powertrain means one EPA line. Against the 22-gallon tank, call it 400 miles a fill in practice.
Does it take premium fuel?
No. Regular unleaded, on every trim.
How much can it tow?
The ceiling is 7,700 pounds, and it belongs to one build: a properly equipped Sport S, Crew Cab, five-foot bed, four-wheel drive, conventional hitch. Leave the lot without that equipment and you get 4,500 pounds on a Sport or Sport S, 6,000 on a Willys or Mojave, 7,000 on a Rubicon. The label on your door jamb governs your specific truck.
How much can it carry in the bed?
As delivered, a Sport carries 1,025 pounds and a Rubicon 1,200, every one a V6 Crew Cab on four-wheel drive. Properly equip a Sport S and the ceiling is 1,720 pounds. Remember the rating covers people and tongue weight too, not just whatever is sitting in the box.
Features and Technology
How big is the touchscreen and is it standard?
12.3 inches, and it is standard everywhere, base Sport included, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and eight speakers. Jeep claims nothing else in the class ships a bigger screen as standard.
Does it have adaptive cruise control?
Standard on Rubicon and Mojave, including the traffic stop-and-go function. Absent on Sport, Sport S and Willys. Third-party listings frequently get this wrong, so check the build sheet of the actual truck if it matters to you. In an August queue at the bridges it matters more than most option-sheet items.
Is the 2026 Gladiator safe?
Both rating bodies publish results. From IIHS: Good on moderate overlap front and on side, Good driver side with Acceptable passenger side on small overlap front, headlights between Marginal and Poor depending on how the truck is equipped, Poor on vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention, Marginal seat belt reminders, Acceptable LATCH. No TOP SAFETY PICK award appears. From NHTSA: four stars frontal, three stars rollover, and Not Rated for overall and side. Full tables are on the technology and safety page.
Do the doors and roof really come off?
Yes, and the windshield folds down. All of it is standard on every trim, and for 2026 Jeep added a quick-release door hinge system that removes the doors without tools. Store the hardware somewhere dry, because salt air is not kind to it on a driveway.
Trim Differences
Which trim is the best value?
For most buyers, the Sport S at $43,015. It adds aluminum wheels and automatic dual-zone climate over the Sport, and it is the trim Jeep's maximum tow and payload ratings attach to, which leaves the Max Tow Package as a deliberate $1,995 add rather than a bundled premium.
Rubicon or Mojave, which one suits the Cape?
They are aimed at opposite jobs and are only $695 apart. Rubicon is low-speed and technical: front and rear lockers standard, 33-inch tires, 7,000-pound tow rating. Mojave is built for speed over sand, with a reinforced frame, strengthened steering knuckles, the widest track in the lineup and the highest ground clearance at up to 11.6 inches, and it tows 1,000 pounds less on the same V6 Crew Cab 4WD configuration.
Is the Sahara more capable than the Willys?
Not off pavement. Sahara costs $2,365 more and spends it on comfort and appearance content, while Willys carries all-terrain tires and a 6,000-pound tow rating. They are aimed at different buyers rather than stacked on each other.
Is the Rubicon X worth $7,995 over a Rubicon?
Only if you want the cabin content. The off-road hardware underneath is identical: same lockers, same 33-inch tires, same ratings. If you would not have optioned the interior anyway, a Sahara with options costs less and leaves change.
Which trims have locking differentials?
Rubicon is the only trim that ships with both, front and rear. Sport, Sport S, Willys and Mojave all go without.

Driving It on Cape Cod
Can I drive it on the beach here?
Only where a permit allows it, and only in season. Barnstable issues the sticker that covers Sandy Neck; the National Park Service issues the one that covers the Seashore's oversand routes. Each one expects four-wheel drive and deflated tires, and each shuts for part of the year while shorebirds nest. Nowhere on the Cape is open to unrestricted beach driving.
Do I need a Rubicon for sand?
No. Sand rewards tires and correct tire pressure far more than it rewards lockers, and four-wheel drive is standard on every Gladiator. A Willys with all-terrain tires handles permit-legal oversand well. Buy the pressure gauge before you buy the trim.
Will it fit in my garage?
Length is the constraint, not width. At 73.8 inches across the body it slips through a standard eight-foot opening comfortably, but 218 inches of truck outlasts most 20-foot bays once you try to shut the door. Trim decides height, 75 to 76.1 inches. Measure your bay front to back before anything else.
Is a Gladiator practical as a daily driver here?
For a lot of households, yes, with two honest caveats. At 19 MPG combined it costs more to run than a crossover, and the 22.3 to 22.4-foot turning radius is wide, which you feel in a crowded summer lot on Route 28. What you get back is a bed that hoses out, a truck that goes where you point it in a nor'easter, and no hesitation about loading muddy gear after a day at Nickerson State Park.
What does salt do to it, and what should I do about it?
Salt reaches the undercarriage from the road in winter and from the air the rest of the year. Rinse the underside after any salt-water launch or oversand run, and through the winter rather than only at the end of it. The corrosion term runs five years with unlimited mileage, and that is the one that matters most this close to salt water.
Service and Ownership
How often does it need an oil change?
No set mileage at all. An indicator system reads how the truck is actually driven and calls the service; once the change-oil message shows, you have 500 miles. Synthetic oil only.
Does towing or beach driving change the service schedule?
Yes, and it is the part most owners are never told. Tow a trailer often or run off-road and the severe-duty column governs: axle fluid gets replaced at 40,000, 80,000 and 120,000 miles instead of merely looked at, transfer case fluid at 60,000 and 120,000. Say which applies when you book and we will service it accordingly.
Is any maintenance included?
None. Coverage under Jeep Wave stops short of model year 2026, so no scheduled service comes with the truck. Plan for the first one.
What is the warranty?
36 months or 36,000 miles basic, 60 months or 60,000 miles powertrain, 60 months or 60,000 miles roadside assistance, and five years with unlimited mileage against corrosion.
Are there open recalls on the 2026 Gladiator?
None outstanding. The federal database shows no open recalls and no open investigations against this model year. That can change, so run the VIN at nhtsa.gov before you sign.
What about the "death wobble" I read about?
That complaint pattern was reported on 2020 through 2022 Gladiators and is not confirmed on the 2026 truck. It is a fair thing to ask about; it is not a current-model issue on the record as it stands.
Buying at Premier Cape Cod
Where are you and what are your hours?
Premier Cape Cod Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 556 Yarmouth Rd, Hyannis, MA 02601, just off the Route 132 corridor and a straight run down Route 6 from the bridges, whether you are coming from the outer Cape or in from Raynham. Call (508) 815-5000 or contact us for current hours.
Can I schedule a test drive online?
Yes. Book a test drive and tell us which trim you want to try. If you are deciding between a Willys and a Rubicon, drive both back to back; the difference is obvious in about two miles.
Can I get pre-approved before I come in?
Yes. Use our financing center to get pre-approved online. It shortens the time in the store considerably.
Will you appraise my trade?
Yes. Start with our trade-in form for a number before you visit, then we will confirm it against the vehicle.
Do you service what you sell?
Yes. Our service department is factory-trained and we stock genuine Mopar parts. On a salt-belt truck that matters more than it does inland.
Do you have Gladiators in stock right now?
Usually several trims at once, though the mix turns over weekly. Check current Gladiator inventory, or phone us for what is physically on the lot this morning.
Should I buy a Gladiator or a Wrangler?
The bed is the whole decision. Same open-air hardware, same solid axles, but one of them keeps the wet and sandy gear out of the cabin. We sell both, so we have no reason to push you either way. See Wrangler vs Gladiator for the direct comparison.
How does it compare to a Toyota Tacoma?
The Gladiator has hardware the Tacoma does not offer at any price: solid front axle, front and rear lockers on the Rubicon, removable doors and roof, fold-down windshield, and a higher maximum tow rating. The Tacoma is more fuel efficient, offers a hybrid and a manual and a six-foot bed, and starts lower. Full head-to-head on the Gladiator vs Tacoma page.
