The 2026 update is more than a facelift. The headline change is under the hood: a new 2.0-liter Hurricane turbocharged four-cylinder becomes the engine on the Laredo Altitude and every trim above it, replacing the outgoing setup with 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque and better EPA numbers. Jeep also fitted a refreshed exterior with a new grille, fascias and headlamps, and a redesigned interior built around the new 12.3-inch Uconnect display. New this year as well is an available Hands-Free Active Driving Assist system for highway driving. Two things did not carry into 2026 and are worth knowing before you shop: there is no V8 in this generation, and the plug-in-hybrid 4xe was discontinued for 2026, so if you want an electrified Grand Cherokee, ask us about a used 4xe. The 293-horsepower, 260-lb-ft 3.6-liter V6 is the proven engine that has powered the Grand Cherokee since 2011. It is smooth, runs on regular 87 octane, and returns EPA estimates of about 19/26/22 mpg in rear-drive form. It is standard on the Laredo and Laredo X.
The new 2.0-liter Hurricane turbo four makes 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft, more of both than the V6, while returning up to about 21/27/23 mpg in rear-drive form and a best-in-class driving range near 529 miles on a tank. It is standard from the Laredo Altitude through the Summit. Both engines pair with an eight-speed automatic.
Four-wheel drive is standard on the Limited Reserve, Summit and 85th Anniversary Edition and runs about $2,000 on the trims below them. Under the refreshed sheetmetal the Grand Cherokee keeps the 4x4 hardware that separates a Jeep from a soft crossover. Two four-wheel-drive systems are offered, Quadra-Trac I and the more capable Quadra-Drive II with a rear electronic limited-slip differential, along with the five-mode Selec-Terrain traction system (Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow and Mud/Sand). An available Quadra-Lift air suspension raises the body for off-road clearance and lowers it at highway speed for efficiency. Standard ground clearance is 8.4 inches, and the standard 18-inch alloy wheels step up to available 20s.
