Pricing and Availability
What is the starting price of a 2026 Jeep Compass?
$29,550 for the Latitude, excluding the $1,995 destination charge, taxes, title and registration. That figure is the manufacturer's, and it is the entry price for a vehicle that already has four-wheel drive fitted.
What does the top 2026 Compass trim cost?
The Limited Altitude sits at the top of the price ladder at $35,555 before destination. The spread from the Latitude to the Limited Altitude is $6,005 across six trims.
Is the 2026 Compass being discontinued?
No. The 2026 Compass is on sale in the United States as a carryover of the current generation, with the Sport trim dropped, two Altitude trims added and an 85th Anniversary Edition added after the launch announcement.
What colors does the 2026 Compass come in?
Bright White, Diamond Black, Silver Zynith, Red Hot, Hydro Blue, Fathom Blue, Joose and High Tide. Joose and Fathom Blue are new for 2026, and Red Hot and Hydro Blue became no-cost colors. Two-tone black roofs are available on the Limited, Limited Altitude and Trailhawk.
Why does the Trailhawk cost less than the top trim?
Because the ladder is priced by content. The Trailhawk, from $34,060 before destination, spends its budget on off-road hardware; the Limited Altitude, from $35,555 before destination, spends its budget on interior equipment and appearance. The price order between them is not a ranking of capability.
Under the Hood
Engines and Performance
How many engines are offered on the 2026 Compass?
One. A 2.0-liter I4 turbo with Stop/Start, rated at 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic on every trim. There is no hybrid or alternate engine in the 2026 US lineup.
Does the 2026 Compass require premium fuel?
No. It runs on regular unleaded, 87 octane. The owner's manual notes higher-octane fuel allows the engine to reach optimal performance but publishes a single output rating, so there is no separate premium-fuel horsepower number.
What is the real-world fuel range on a tank?
The tank holds 13.5 gallons and the EPA combined rating is 26 MPG, which frames the arithmetic. Winter driving with the heat running and summer crawling at the bridges both pull below the combined figure, so plan a longer run off-Cape around a fill rather than around the rating.
What does the EPA estimate the Compass costs in fuel per year?
$2,350 a year under the EPA's default assumptions, published alongside the 23 city, 31 highway and 26 combined ratings at fueleconomy.gov.
Can I put a small trailer or a utility trailer behind one?
Behind a Trailhawk, yes. Fitted with the Trailer-Tow Group, the 2.0-liter turbo and Active Drive Low are rated at 2,000 pounds, properly equipped, on a conventional hitch. That combination is sold on the Trailhawk only, and the other five trims carry no trailer rating.
Equipment
Features and Technology
Does the base Compass come with heated seats?
Yes. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are standard on the Latitude and on every trim above it, along with remote start. For a winter climate that is the equipment that matters most at the entry price.
Do I need a cable to use my phone in a Compass?
No. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto compatibility are standard on all six trims. Wired Type-A and Type-C ports are up front as well, with a Type-A charge-only port in the second row.
How did the 2026 Compass do in crash testing?
NHTSA gives it four stars overall. IIHS rates it Good on both small overlap front tests, Acceptable on headlights, Marginal on the updated side test, and Poor on the updated moderate overlap front test. Both bodies publish the full result sets and the ratings are laid out on the technology and safety page.
Does it have a sunroof option?
A dual-pane panoramic sunroof is standard on the 85th Anniversary Edition and available on the Limited, Limited Altitude and Trailhawk through the Sun, Sound and Navigation Group.
Choosing
Trim Differences
Do I need to step up a trim to get four-wheel drive?
No. It is fitted to all six trims. What the ladder changes is comfort, appearance and, on the Trailhawk, the addition of a low range and off-road hardware.
What does Altitude mean on a Compass?
Altitude is an appearance treatment layered on the Latitude and the Limited: gloss-black exterior moldings and badging, neutral gray accents, larger dark-finish wheels and piano-black interior trim. It changes no mechanical specification.
Which trim makes sense if I only drive paved roads?
Any of the five Active Drive trims. Pick by the equipment you want in the cabin rather than by capability: the Latitude for the essentials, the 85th Anniversary Edition for the sunroof and audio, the Limited for adaptive cruise and the power liftgate.
Is the Trailhawk worth it for someone who never goes off-road?
It is the right car for ruts, soft ground, unpaved grades and a small trailer. If your year has none of those in it, the Limited gives you a quieter tire, leatherette and the digital cluster at a similar price, and both are the store's to sell.
Living With It
Service and Ownership
What maintenance does a Compass need in the first 60,000 miles?
Oil changes when the indicator calls them, cabin filters every 12,000 miles, engine air filters every 30,000, spark plugs at 60,000, and inspections of the CV joints, brakes and front suspension along the way. Full table on the maintenance page.
How long is the powertrain covered?
5 years or 60,000 miles, with 3 years or 36,000 miles of basic coverage and 5 years or 60,000 miles of roadside assistance alongside it.
What should I do about salt corrosion?
Wash the underside through the winter rather than just the paint, and keep the 20,000-mile brake and front-suspension inspections. Corrosion coverage runs 3 years unlimited miles on sheet metal panels and 5 years unlimited on outer body panels, which are panel terms rather than undercarriage terms.

Buying a Compass at Premier Cape Cod
Where is Premier Cape Cod located?
556 Yarmouth Rd, Hyannis, MA 02601, in the middle of the Cape. Call (508) 815-5000 or use the contact form.
Can I book a Compass test drive before I come in?
Yes, and it is the faster way to do it. Book a test drive and tell us which trim you want, and we will have it out front rather than have you wait while it is pulled from the back row.
Can I drive two trims back to back in one visit?
Yes, and for this vehicle it is the visit worth making. The Latitude and the Trailhawk are the two ends of the lineup and the difference between Active Drive and Active Drive Low is easier to feel than to read about.
Do you get financing approved before the visit?
You can. Start a pre-approval online and the numbers are settled before you arrive, which keeps the visit about the vehicle rather than about paperwork.
Will you take my current vehicle in trade?
Yes. Value your trade online before you come in and bring the registration and any payoff information with you.
What if the exact Compass I want is not on the lot?
Tell us the trim, the color and the packages and we will work it from incoming allocation and from what can be located. A specific combination like a Trailhawk with the Trailer-Tow Group is worth asking about early rather than hoping it appears.
Is it worth crossing a bridge to buy here?
Buyers come to us from Falmouth, across the Bourne Bridge and down from the South Shore, from Barnstable and the Mid-Cape, and up from Marion and down from Plymouth, and the reason is usually service rather than sale day. The car gets bought once and serviced for years, and salt-belt inspection work is the part that benefits from being close. A Falmouth or Marion owner saves that trip twice a year, and a Plymouth household tends to come down together and make a morning of it.
Can I get an oversand permit through the dealership?
No. Oversand stickers for Sandy Neck come from the town of Barnstable and the Cape Cod National Seashore permits come from the National Park Service, both with their own requirements and seasonal closures. We can set the vehicle up correctly for that use; the paperwork is yours to file.
Can I service a Compass here if I bought it somewhere else?
Yes. Schedule service with our factory-trained technicians regardless of where the vehicle was purchased, and order genuine parts if you do the work yourself.
What should I bring to the appointment?
A license, proof of insurance, your trade's registration and payoff details if you have one, and a rough idea of which two trims you want to drive. Everything else we handle here.
