That is worth saying plainly, because prior-year Grand Wagoneers offered a second, more powerful version and a lot of third-party copy still describes it. For 2026 there is no high-output engine and no V8 in this lineup.
Peak output lands at 420 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 468 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm, from three litres, two turbochargers and direct injection. The six cylinders sit in a line rather than a vee, and that layout is a good part of why the thing feels unhurried and free of vibration when it is dragging a loaded trailer up onto the Sagamore Bridge. Every configuration pairs it with a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic with a wide 8.6 overall ratio spread.
Fuel is worth a sentence because it is commonly reported wrong: Jeep's specification sheet lists mid-grade 89 octane as recommended and regular 87 octane as acceptable. This is not an engine that requires premium.
The base Grand Wagoneer is rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive a $3,000 option. Limited Altitude and Summit Obsidian are offered in four-wheel drive only. The standard transfer case is a single-speed full-time system with Auto, Tow, Snow, Mud, Sand and Sport modes and no low range; a two-speed transfer case is optional and adds Rock mode plus a 2.64 low-range ratio. A limited-slip rear differential is standard and an electronic limited-slip differential is available.
EPA ratings run 17 city / 24 highway / 19 combined for the rear-drive short wheelbase, 17 / 23 / 19 with four-wheel drive, and 16 / 22 / 18 for the four-wheel-drive Grand Wagoneer L. A 12-inch Uconnect 5C NAV touchscreen is standard on every configuration, which is unusual in this class. There is no small-screen base model here. The driver gets a 10.25-inch reconfigurable cluster on the Grand Wagoneer and Limited, stepping to 12.3 inches standard on Summit and available on Limited. Wireless Apple CarPlay support and Android Auto compatibility are included.
Above that, the screen count climbs. Summit offers a 10.25-inch Front Passenger Interactive Display, an uncommon feature that lets the passenger run navigation, the vehicle cameras or Rear Seat Entertainment on their own screen. Dual 10.1-inch rear-seat screens with HDMI and Amazon Fire TV built in are available on Limited and Summit. Jeep markets the cabin as offering up to 75 inches of total screen space. That is Jeep's figure, and the company does not publish a screen-by-screen breakdown behind it.
Three sound systems serve the range. Every configuration leaves the factory with a nine-speaker Alpine and its subwoofer. Reach Summit and a 19-speaker McIntosh MX950 is fitted as standard, which Limited buyers can also option. Leather covers the seats in all seven configurations, and the grade climbs as you go: perforated Capri on the Grand Wagoneer, Nappa on Limited, premium Nappa on Summit, and quilted Palermo with a suede headliner once you reach the Summit Reserve package. The middle row arrives as captain's chairs by default, which puts the count at seven; specify the bench instead and it becomes eight.
The dimension that matters most in a three-row is third-row legroom, and the Grand Wagoneer publishes 36.6 inches of it, with 39.0 inches of headroom — 38.5 inches if the vehicle has the sunroof. That is adult-usable space rather than a jump seat, and it is identical in both wheelbases; the L's extra 12 inches of body goes entirely to the cargo floor, not to third-row passengers. Second-row legroom is 42.7 inches.
Summit adds four-zone climate control with a second-row comfort display, 24-way power front seats, and the tri-pane panoramic sunroof whose third pane sits over the third row, which is why the back of this cabin feels bright rather than closed in. Front seats are heated and ventilated across the lineup.
The headline is 10,000 lbs with a conventional hitch on the 4x4 short-wheelbase build, properly equipped, but read the qualifier before the number, because it does most of the work. Three things have to be true at once: short wheelbase, four-wheel drive, and a 3.92 axle ratio that reaches you inside either the Heavy-duty Trailer Tow package or the Upland package. Miss the axle and the identical vehicle drops to 6,030 lbs. Order rear-wheel drive instead and it is 6,210 lbs. Stretch to the long-wheelbase L, keeping four-wheel drive and the 3.92 axle, and it settles at 9,860 lbs.
Properly equipped, the short wheelbase carries a 15,000-pound GCWR, or 16,500 pounds with Max Tow, and a maximum tongue weight of 820 pounds, or 981 pounds with Max Tow. Payload runs from 1,415 to 1,625 pounds depending on configuration, with the four-wheel-drive short wheelbase at 1,560. The Heavy-duty Trailer Tow package brings the two-speed transfer case, the 3.92 final drive, removable tow hooks, an electronic limited-slip differential, integrated trailer brake control, trailer light and tire-pressure monitoring, and blind-spot monitoring with trailer detection.

Ground clearance is 7.4 inches on the standard suspension and 10.1 inches with the Quadra-Lift air suspension in its Off Road 2 setting, measured on the 275/55R20 tire. Approach, breakover and departure angles improve the same way, from 21.4, 18.6 and 21.2 degrees on the standard suspension to 25.2, 22.0 and 24.0 degrees with air suspension raised.
The Upland is the configuration built for this: it adds fuel tank, transfer case and front axle skid plates and rides on Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires. Oversand driving at Sandy Neck and the National Seashore requires a permit and is closed seasonally for shorebird nesting, so check current access with the town of Barnstable or the National Park Service before you plan around it.
Active Driving Assist is standard on every Grand Wagoneer. It is a hands-on-wheel, eyes-on-road system that centers the vehicle in its lane while managing speed and braking. It is useful on a long Route 3 run, and it is not a hands-free system. Jeep does not offer a hands-free highway system on this vehicle, and any description of it as one is wrong.
